EDMONTON - Edmonton injury lawyer Marilyn Burns
announced Tuesday she will run for the leadership of
the right-wing Alberta Wildrose Alliance.
Burns, 49, had been serving as the party's justice
critic and communications vice-president.
She is the second declared candidate, joining Paul
Hinman, the party's lone MLA.
The fledgling party, which bills itself as truly
conservative compared to the governing Tories, will
meet in Red Deer in November to pick a leader to
replace party founder Randy Thorsteinson, who
resigned from the top post in March.
Burns works in the law firm of Mark McCourt, the
injury lawyer known for his outspoken opposition to
the Klein government's auto insurance reforms and
the cap on payouts for minor injuries.
